All designs on my website are subject to International Copyright Laws (Craft Context). Copyright Laws are in place to protect the livelihood of designers who create pieces of original work.

However, quite often people fail to understand this. So, to assist those people, I would like to provide some general, basic information as to what you can and can`t do with the patterns on my site.

Generally;

When a pattern is purchased by an individual; that individual has the permission of the designer to create the item/s in the pattern for private and domestic use only.This means that;

you cannot photocopy the pattern and give copies to another person or other people in a group,

you cannot share the pattern with another person or other people in a group,

you cannot teach from the pattern unless prior permission from the Designer has been obtained, and

you cannot make up the item/s in the pattern and sell them, unless prior permission has been obtained.

If you are a Hobbyist,

i.e. a person who makes handmade items and sell them in small numbers.

You can contact the designer and seek permission to make up and sell items from their pattern/s. You will need to be specific as to where and when you intend to sell the items e.g. markets and, as to how many you would like to sell.

If you are a Teacher,

and you wish to teach a group from a commercial pattern,

you can seek permission from the Designer to use the pattern instructions as a teaching tool. However, you will need to assure the Designer that both you and each student will have an original pattern to work from.

If you are a Self Directing Group Without a Teacher,

and you all wish to create the same design using a commercial pattern.

Each person in the group must have their own original pattern to work from.

To assist Hobbyists who purchase patterns from my site; I have contacted most of the Designers who supply pattens to me commercially, and asked them to issue statements, which give Hobbyists more information about the useage of their patterns. My own statement for 'craftinabag designs' is first, then other designers follow on; please read each one carefully, as some differ and restrictions apply.
