Hi there.I live on the East Coast of Australia in an area called The Manning Valley. My town is Taree, which is a lovely country town with a beautiful wide blue river running through it. The seaside is only half hour away and to the west we enjoy a hinterland of undulating mountains. My much loved husband and my gorgeous "Papillon" dog are my soul mates who share my daily life.

| I am at my "happiest" when I am making or creating things. I grew up in a simple family home with my sister and two brothers, where my mother baked everything we needed to eat, roast dinners, gorgeous desserts, cakes and biscuits. Mum hand knitted all of our lovely cardigans and jumpers, and at 81 years of age is still doing it all for us. Every year at Christmas one of Mum's home baked fruit cakes arrives in the mail.....how wonderful is that!

| When I was young I loved to sew. However, my mother only used her sewing machine to do mending, and my sister loved knitting, so there wasn't anyone to teach me how to sew. I remember that I used to buy dress patterns to make my own clothes, but as I didn't know what I was doing, I used to throw the instructions away and just make up the dress the best way I could. Whilst it probably taught me to be creative, many a dress didn't quite look like the one on the front of the pattern......LOL!

| To-day I love to work from and create patterns. My dream is to have my own range of patterns, and my website is my first step towards that goal. My favourite crafts are; stitcheries, patchwork and sewing, card making, hand painting on porcelain and some decorative painting. Developing my website has been one of the biggest challenges in my life. However, I have loved every minute of putting it together and hope that you will share part of my day, by popping in regularly to see what I am up to at my cottage.

| I named my business Calico Cottage because; whilst I love gorgeous fabrics, I have a deep fondness for calico. I nearly always use calico somewhere in my designs; it's something about it's "humble nature" that gives me a warm homely feeling. When I stitch it alongside other fabulous fabrics, with their lovely patterns and colours, I feel my calico is saying.......... "don't forget where you came from! ". I guess that's the best way to describe me; it doesn't matter what I become, or what I have in my life, I'm a person that never forgets where I came from......a 'simple' country life. I hope my interaction with you and my website reflects that. Many Blessings......Judith
